MU professor and “Presidential Debate expert” previews tonight’s action
University of Missouri professor of communication Mitchell McKinney studies presidential debates, and in fact once he was a consultant for the Commission on Presidential Debates, which puts the debates together. He’s spent time studying the history of the impact debates have had in past elections – and says they actually were influential in the elections in 1960, 1976, 1980 and 2000. He told KBIA’s Zach Garcia on this week’s Talking Politics, that he thinks the debates could be influential this year, as well.
Follow this link to listen to Garcia’s complete interview with McKinney about the debate (it’s the second audio file).
Tonight, you’ll be able to hear NPR’s coverage of the debate live on KBIA2, which is available through an HD radio, or at KBIA.org - look for the tab on the right side of the page under “now playing.” NPR will also host a live chat, and provide fact checks during the debate. Check that out here tonight.
